 I pause for a moment, aghast at the number of them filling the narrow path. Before today, I caught only glimpses of the laborers brought in to staff the palace—always pleasant, clean, groomed to Mother’s satisfaction. Like Binta, I thought they lived simple lives, safe within the palace walls. I never considered where they came from, where else they might have ended up,
“Skies…” It’s almost too hard to bear the sight. Mostly diviners, the laborers outnumber the villagers by hordes, dressed in nothing but tattered rags. Their dark skin blisters under the scorching sun, marred by the dirt and sand seemingly burned into their beings. Each is hardly more than a walking skeleton.
The main idea in this passage I believe is how differently Amari had been living to Zeile and Tzain and their family and maybe how Amari was taking it all for granted.

Food Sources: Maori Culture

Cultivated plants: The ancestors of the Māori brought edible plants from their homelands, including kūmara, yams, taro and tī pore (Cordyline fruticosa), a species of cabbage tree.

Wild plants

New Zealand was originally covered with dense native bush, and its ferns, vines, palms, fungi, berries, fruit and seeds became important foods. 

Animal foods

The introduced kiore (Polynesian rat) and kurī (Polynesian dog) were valuable and highly regarded food sources.

Food-gathering places

Each tribe had its own named fishing grounds and diving rocks protected by kaitiaki (guardians). These sites were very important, and in some cases tapu (sacred) to the tribes which relied on them for their survival. In the 21st century many Māori continued to catch their local delicacies at these sites.

Drinks

Māori drank fresh water and, for medicinal purposes, tonics made from seaweed, berries, fruits and leaves steeped in water. They used no alcohol or tobacco and did not regularly consume any stimulants, although special plant concoctions are known to have been drunk by warriors preparing for battle.

My critical reveiw on playing around with the mBot's is I beleive it was a waste of time because the mBot's barely work because we weren't able to add complex moves to the coding of the mBots.

 I turn back toward Amari and try to let it go. But in her eyes, I see her brother’s. I feel his hands choking me.

“I want to trust her—”
“No, you don’t.”
“Well, even if I did, I can’t. Her father ordered the Raid. Her brother burned down our village. What makes you think she’s any different?”
A message I take from this scene is no matter how much you dislike someone always give them a chance.

One question I have from this paragraph is, How are Zelie and Amari coexist going forward?

“Mama, are you okay?” 
Tears come to her eyes, spilling into the wrinkles of her dark skin. “It’s been so long,” she whispers. “I never thought I would feel the warmth of magic again”

“I feel,” she chokes through her silent sobs. “I feel like I can breathe again.”
This could be compared to / A message I take from this scene is everyone isn't honest because everyone thought Mama Agba wasn't a diviner but it turns out she was.

The main idea of this quote is showing how emotional Mama Agba was to have magic back with her
