Today in science we are learning about methods and how to write methods. Our first method is how to make a sandwich.

How to make a sandwich:

1. Wash and dry your hands.

2. Get 2 slices of bread out of the packet and put it on the plate. 

3. Open the butter container

4. Grab a knife by the handle and put it in the butter.

5. Scoop some butter onto the sharp end of the knife

6. Spread the butter on one front side of one piece of bread

7. Then open the Marmite container

8. Put the sharp end of the knife into the marmite and scoop some on.

9. Spread the marmite onto the other front side piece of bread.

10. Put the butter side and marmite side of the bread together.

Why is it important to have a detailed method?

So people know how to do something

Social Studies: Culture

Learning Objective: 
Understand how people pass on and sustain culture and heritage for different reasons and that this has consequences for people.

What I already knew about culture:
Culture is something that has to do with peoples place of birth and their nationality's

Sundials

1. Did you know a mathematician and astronomer called Theodosius is said to have invented a universal sundial that could be used anywhere in the worked.

2. I learnt that sundials can also be used at night. Because the moon is sufficiently bright that the lunar age is known.

3. I didn't know that the stick  in the sundial actually has a name. Its name is Gnomon.

How we made the Sundial:
I made the sundial with Austin and Michael. First off we grabbed a square piece of wood approximately 300 millimetre's by 300 millimetre's. The next thing we did was use sand paper and sanded the edges so the didn't look so ruff. Our next step was to drill the hole in the middle for the Gnomon. So we measured the hole in the exact middle and drilled it. Next we needed a Gnomon to put in the hole, so we got a piece of dowelled and the  first piece we cut was too long and not wide enough so we tried gluing it. Then the next day we looked at our sundial to see if it was was stuck but it wasn't so we had to cut a wider piece of dowelled and it fit perfectly. Our next job was to measure out the numbers, we used a protractor to do this. Once we were done in the workshop we came back our Maths classroom and coloured each section a different colour but we doubled up on one colour. Overall I am quite proud of my product.

What I learnt:
I learnt different steps to making a sundial.

What I had fun with:
Drilling the hole and colouring it in was probably my favourite parts.

What I found difficult:
Defiantly making out the angles for the numbers.

What would I do different:
Make it a circle and make it smaller so it is easier to colour in.

Science: What is a Scientist?

What do I think a Scientist?
I think a Scientist is someone who works in Science. They could be a Physicist, Biologist, Geologist. They could work in a Laboratory.

What I Found Out:
A person who is studying or has a pro knowledge of one or more natural or physical science. Agronomist specialises in soil and crops. An astronomer studies stars, planets and galaxy's. There are much more.

Researching a Scientist:
Albert Einstein, he was German. He won a Nobel Prize in Physics.

For the grandparents they speak really dumb. They make the daughter seem smarter than her grandparents.

I think it is about killing butterflies and if its good or not. In someways they are bad cause they can eat your vegetables but they can also be good because they don't hurt you.

 I think she wants us to know that it is good and bad to kill butterflies.

The Grandparents seem Maori and quite stupid, The granddaughter is Maori and quite smart, The Teacher hates Butterflies.

R-Photo was from China of a Truck crash in fog which caused a traffic jam. The cars were left for 9 days
A- No authority because we don't know who made it and were it came from
P- Petrol prices are too high and we should do something about it.

Why would people share this:

• Angry that fuel prices are going up in there area
• If prices keep going up ditch your car in the street
• Stop government increasing prices or people will do something

The Treaty Of Waitangi

What I already know: I knew that the treaty of Waitangi is a signed agreement between the maori and the british and you get a day off for it.

What I found interesting: How it took so long for the treaty to get signed.

English 2019

Today in English i found out how people think of teenagers. They think that we do nothing but stare at a screen. Although for some people that may may be true, but for others that could be quite offensive. Not all teenagers spend all their spare time staring at a screen, they may sometimes but that's just this generation.
