I think Ellie has never seen herself as a typical teenager, unable to waste away her days on a computer, much more comfortable drenching sheep in the back block, however, recent experiences make her feel even more disconnected from the 'typical' teenager.

- “They say teenagers can sleep all day”. Is this true? Do you agree? Does Ellie still see herself as a typical teenagers? I think it is true for some but not just teenagers. I do not think she sees herself a typical teenager.

Try and explain what Ellie’s subconscious could be thinking about: why is her dad cooking for the whole town? Why did Father Cronin ignore Ellie’s greeting? Why was Corrie 8 years old again? Homer rides up to Ellie to ride two abreast and holds hands with her. Then Homer stays 100-200 meters behind Ellie and she'd stop at every corner to check and then signal. This shows that they are starting to think like soldiers, like what Homer said before.
Why do you think Mr. Clement is reluctant to help Lee and Robyn? How would you react in his position?
Because he doesn't trust them or anyone, and he does not want to get caught by soldiers.

One type was very well trained and professional soldiers and they treat people better. The other type of soldiers were just people to make up the numbers and treated people badly.

I think because that's the only way for him to survive, other than leaving him there to die.

They'd decide to use one of the truck form the . Robyn will go back to the restaurant and gets Lee ready, gets him close to the street, while Ellie and Homer burn down the street, stop, and throw Lee and Robyn in the truck, then go to Hell. It is Homer & Ellie's idea.

- What pieces of evidence from the book inform the reader that this invasion wasn’t entirely peaceful? I think its the fact how the soldiers treat people and how you can see and hear such horrible things. Plus there was a lot of places that had been destroyed.

- Why does the idea of a female soldier surprise Ellie? She is surprised because maybe she thinks that to be a solder you have to be a male and that she is used to seeing soldiers as male than females.
- If your parents were captured in a situation like this, would they have been ‘sensible’, or would there have been violence? With one there may of been violence and then the opposite with the other
- How is Ellie ‘transformed’ once she steps out from behind a tree near the
Showgrounds?When Ellie and her friends were behind the tree, she was really happy
that she could hide all of them and get away from the trouble. As soon as she steps away from the tree while something is happening, she starts to panic and starts to worry.
- Ellie and Kevin’s quick-thinking allowed them to turn a ride-on lawnmower
into a bomb. Was this moral behaviour? Did they do the right thing, or
should they have surrendered themselves? I don't think this was a good idea. This is because they didn't know why the soldiers were there but they just assumed that they were bad. I think What they could have done better was to figure out what exactly are the soldiers are doing there and to at least protect the people of Wirrawee.

Ellie claims that ‘Hell’ is only a label and that people label things all the time, often ignoring or overlooking certain labelled places or things. She then comes to the conclusion that ‘Hell was people’. Is she right? What’s your opinion, on labelling and Hell? I think that hell can be all kinds of things and that it is called hell because it just looks like hell
What was especially peculiar about the planes that flew over Hell? ‘Their ------, their ------, their----- frightened me.’ Do these characteristics have any significance? The planes all had their lights out and there were a lot of them they think that they are war planes and they are going to attack Wirrawee
Corrie and Kevin are the only couple in the group, but the trip was bound to bring friends closer. So why does Homer’s interest in Fi seem so odd to Ellie?
