Agricultural Age Essay

In Social Studies we have been learning about different periods in time. My group had to learn about Agricultural age and one we had done that we had to individually write essays around the topic. This is the essay I wrote,

During the Agricultural Age period in history, there were some significant technological advancements. Some of these inventions during this time were Tractors, Fertilizer, and the Combine Harvester. These inventions are still widely used today.

An important invention seen during the Agricultural Period was the Tractor. The Tractor is an engineering vehicle that was specifically designed to deliver a high tractive effort at slow speeds, for the purposes of hauling a trailer or machinery such as that used in agriculture or construction. This helped because it made it easy to transport things around a farm and more. Tractors are still used today to transport things around a farm. The first Tractor was invented in 1892. This is why this was an important invention.

Another important invention in this time period was the Combine Harvester. The Combine Harvester is a versatile machine designed to efficiently harvest a variety of grain crops. The name derives from its combining three separate harvesting operations reaping, threshing, and winnowing into a single process. Combine harvesters are still used to this day to harvest crops. The first-ever Combine Harvester was invented in 1835. This is why this was an important invention.

The final important invention in the Agricultural time period was Fertilizer. Fertilizer, a natural or artificial substance containing the chemical elements that improve the growth and productiveness of plants. Fertilizers enhance the natural fertility of the soil or replace the chemical elements taken from the soil by previous crops. Fertilizer is still widely used today to help improve the growth of plants. Fertilizer was believed to be invented in 1903. This is why this was an important invention.

There were many significant technological advancements seen during the Agricultural era. Some of those discussed are the Tractor, Combine Harvester, and Fertilizer. These are all commonly seen today all around the world and are still very important.

Slavery Songs

Today we learnt about why slavery songs are important. They are important because they cured the boredom of the slaves while they were working. They also kept them awake and kept them going.

Research Project- Sustainability

Key Question 1: What is the environmental/social sustainability issue?
Antarctica and the waters surrounding it are under pressure due to it melting.
Key Question 2:  What factors have caused this issue?
Global warming is causing the ice to melt and therefore antarctica losing it’s ice. This is the longest danger to antarctica. some ice shelves have collapsed due to global warming. Global warming is a slow increase in the overall temperature of the earth’s atmosphere. Global warming is caused by carbon dioxide and greenhouse gases.

Key Question 3:  What will happen if this issue continues to degrade?
If all the ice covering Antarctica sea level would rise about 70 meters. The ocean would cover all the coastal cities. And land area would shrink significantly. Animals would loose their habitat and humans will therefore loose their homes.

Key Question 4: What are the possible solutions to this issue (either being currently done or could be done)?  We could ban mining in the Antarctic and not kill any of the animals native or living in the antarctic. There are petitions about Global warming and climate change most specifically Greta Thunberg. She is leaving school every friday and going down to the Swedish parliament to argue with them to reduce emissions in accordance with the Paris agreement.

Conclusions:
Antarctica is melting. Global Warming is causing the ice to melt and therefore causing antarctica to lose its ice. If all the ice covering Antarctica sea level would rise about 70 meters. The ocean would cover all the coastal cities. Greta thunberg is leaving school every friday and going down to the swedish government and started a petition to stop global warming. By stopping global warming antarctica will stop melting.

Evaluation:
What did you do well? How do you know this?
Answering all the questions

What didn’t I do all well I could have?
Time-management

How could you do better next time?
Get less distracted

How did this project help you to understand more about how people have an influence and impact the environment?
I helped me realize how bad some people in this world are when it comes to saving the environment

If you could research this topic some more, what else could/would you find out?
I think I’ve found everything I need.

Sustainable Issue:Plastic

What is the sustainable issue?
The use of plastic is a sustainable issue. The wastage of plastic that is being left behind by people and is killing animals. For example the Turtles. The turtles see the plastic in the water as there food and think it is a jellyfish and they go to eat it and die.

What causes the issue?
Human Beings are using plastic for everything. Then it is being disposed incorrectly. Because of it's so lightly weighted is can so easily fly away. Which therefor means that it can fly into the ocean and kill the turtles.

What have we done to fix the issue?
To fix the plastic issue we have done the following. We have gotten rid of single use of plastic bags. Most places have also gotten rid of plastic straws and replaced them with paper. People have also made a project where if you buy a bracket that goes into people cleaning up the ocean.

What else needs to be done to improve the issue?
In my opinion I think we should do. Put more bins around and next to those bins include a sign that says "put rubbish in bin or police catch you" Then we could put a censor on the ground when a piece of plastic or rubbish hits it and alarm sounds.
